Quickstart guide
1. Launching the Add-in
Open Revit.
Open the project in which you want to analyze sunlight exposure.
Ensure that the model includes all shadow-casting elements for accurate analysis.
Navigate to the Designbotic Tools tab and locate the Sunlight icon.
Click on the Sunlight icon to launch the add-in.
Log in to your account.
2. Placing Samples for Sunlight Analysis
Switch to the plan view where you want to place analysis samples.
In the add-in’s main window, locate the Input tool group and select Sample Place.
This function will initiate the placement of a Revit family representing a sample point.
Samples are placed at level 0 of the current floor.
If needed, adjust the sample height using the family properties by modifying the offset value.
3. Selecting Samples for Analysis
Once samples are placed, choose which ones to analyze:
Use the Select option to manually pick specific samples.
Use Load Samples from Model to automatically import all samples from the project.
4. Loading Shading Elements
To include shading elements in the analysis:
Use Load Shading Elements from Model to import all shadow-casting objects.
Use Select to manually choose specific elements for the analysis.
5. Configuring Analysis Settings
In the Analysis Settings tool group, set the latitude and longitude for the project:
Alternatively, configure this in Revit under Manage > Location, then select Get Location from Revit in the add-in.
To verify that latitude and longitude are set correctly, click Check. This will open a browser displaying the selected location on a map.
6. Defining Sunlight Requirements
Choose a preset for sunlight analysis:
Poland Downtown
Poland Not Downtown
Custom
If Custom is selected, define:
Time zone
Specific day(s) for analysis
Required sunlight exposure hours
Time range during which sunlight is analyzed
Multiple days can be added for analysis. For a positive result, requirements must be met on all selected days.
A preset can also be selected and then modified.
7. Running the Analysis
Start the analysis by clicking the Play button labeled Analyzer is Paused. You can pause it at any time.
In the plan view or another Revit view, sunlight umbrellas will appear, showing the sun’s trajectory.
8. Adjusting Visualization
Change Graphic Display Options to Consistent Colors to color-code umbrellas, indicating which samples meet the requirements.
In the Output Settings tool group:
Switch from Umbrellas to Disks to visualize direct sunlight and shadow zones by time range.
Enable Bake Tags to display additional information next to each umbrella.
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for using the Sunlight add-in to conduct sunlight exposure analysis in Revit.
